What is a Dental Cavitie and Why is it Solved with Resins in Merida?

Greetings, Whiteliners! Greetings once again from Dr. Guillermo Trujillo, from the Whiteline clinic. Today we will talk about two key topics: dental cavities (the most common disease of teeth) and its most modern solution: dental fillings.

What is Tooth Decay and Why Should We Treat It?

Tooth decay is a bacterial infection that gradually destroys the tooth and weakens the dental structure. If it is not treated in time, it could advance towards the nerve, requiring root canal treatment, increasing the risk of fractures.

Prevention is key!

  • Brush 3 times a day with proper technique.

  • Use dental floss and mouthwash daily.

  • Visit us every 6 months for cleanings and check-ups.

Dental Resins: The Aesthetic and Functional Solution

When tooth decay is already present, resins (or "fillings") are our preferred material to restore the tooth.

Why choose them?
They are Aesthetic: They blend in with the natural color of your teeth, unlike silver amalgams.

They are Conservative: They preserve more of the dental structure than other treatments.

And they are Resistant: Ideal for small/medium cavities with good remaining tooth structure.

When are they NOT enough?

  • If the tooth is very damaged (it will require a crown or inlay).

  • If there are recurrent leaks (the cause should be evaluated).

Process at Whiteline

This is what we do for our local and international Whiteliners:

  1. Precise diagnosis: We detect cavities even in early stages.

  2. Removal of damaged tissue: With local anesthesia (painless).

  3. Resin application: High-quality material that will seal and protect your tooth.

Does it last forever?

No. Resins have a lifespan (5-10 years, depending on your hygiene and habits). Therefore, we check them during your bi-annual check-ups.
